The Meade LS 8" ACF (advanced coma free) LightSwitch is a self-aligning catadioptric telescope designed to be very simple to operate. With the flip of a switch (literally!), observing can begin immediately with no setup effort from the user! Once the automatic alignment routine is completed, the included AutoStar III GOTO Keypad provides a 100,000 Celestial object database to slew to supported by an audio guided-tour narrative with the "Astronomer Inside" feature.

Meade’s incredible ACF™ (Advanced Coma-Free™) optics, the proprietary optical innovation that is so clearly superior, delivers stunning Ritchey-Chrétien performance at a Schmidt Cassegrain price. Developed over years of design and testing in Meade’s own engineering and manufacturing facilities, ACF optics are unlike anything on the market — producing tack-sharp, fully rounded stars without the crescent-shaped distortions known as coma, an optical aberration found on every Schmidt-Cassegrain and most other, optical systems. And because ACF optics concentrate starlight much more precisely without coma or diffraction spikes, unlike other optical systems like Richey-Chrétien and Schmidt-Cassegrain, you can actually see and image fainter stars.

The LS 8" ACF comes equipped with Ultra High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) multicoated optics, a GPS receiver, finder scope, Level North Technology and an AutoStar controller with AutoAlign software. To produce a flat, coma-free field similar to a Ritchey-Chretien telescope, Meade uses a full-aperture aspheric corrector lens in combination with a spherical primary mirror.
This creates a two-element optical system that performs like the single hyperbolic primary mirror found in a Ritchey-Chretien design.

Eight "C" Cell batteries will keep the telescope powered for 3-5 hours depending on the usage, An optional AC power supply is available from Meade for longer observing sessions. Meade has included a rigid aluminum fork mount, massive 4.875" worm gears, as well as a Series 4000 Meade 26mm Super Plossl Eyepiece (77x magnification).
